PLACE: TOTEM -IL CANALE GALLERY- VENEZIA SUMMER 2005
From Sandro Mele’s idea was born “for Bettie event” where Venezia’s meeting among contemporary artistic languages shows the positive vibes of “Bettie Petith” soul…
The whole project is realized around the life of an american woman “Bettie Petith” which lives in Roma since 1980. Her main philosophical idea is the space-time sharing. Her open-house is placed in the center of Roma in front of the ‘Oratorio dei Filippini’ where people from everywhere like artists, students, political refugees live and share togheter different experiences. Starting from here she created her own free association with the aim to help poor people in Africa and latin America by learning projects, bringing electricity in small villages and teaching microcredit system. In Bettie’s you can find a marvellous atmosphere and people is taken by Sandro Mele’s camera around a kitchen table. The exhibition is done by different creations of 55x55 cm. In the center of the hall there will be a mountain of paper babbles and a video ( Sam Cole, music of Tonj Acquaviva) with an interview to Bettie Petith, where she will say, how the idea ‘fitil’ was born, ( ‘fitil’ is her free association and in Italian language means ‘candle’). The main inspiration of Bettie is this old Chinese proverb: it’s better to fire a small candle that curse the darkness. The acoustic system is created by Peppe Maietta with his own dipolar system + sub.
